This guide covers setup and installation of the Star TSP100 LAN series of receipt printer. Please note, this printer will not be visible in System Preferences >> Printers and Scanners and will not be available to other programs. All details in this article are subject to change at any time.

Before you begin ...

In order for Heartland Retail to interface with printers, you'll need to have Heartland Retail Connect installed and running on your computer. For download and installation instructions, click here.

Step 1: Connect your printer to the router

Locate your internet router and plug your Star TSP printer into an available ethernet port. It does not matter if your computer connects to the network via ethernet or wifi as long as all devices are on the same subnetwork.

Once the printer is plugged in, we will want to do a test to make sure it has a valid IP address to verify it is viewable to your network. On your receipt printer, you will need to print a network configuration report.

  1. Flip the power switch on the side of the printer off

  2. Hold down the FEED button on the front of the printer

  3. While continuing to hold the FEED button down, flip the power switch on

  4. The lights should flash for a few seconds and then two pages should print out with a cut between them.

  5. You can now release the FEED button.

The second page printed should resemble the image below (though the actual numbers will vary.) Your printer should have an IP address under the "Current IP Parameters Status" section (circled in green below). If the IP Address is "0.0.0.0 (Didn't obtain)" it indicates a problem with the connection between your printer and your local network router or switch. Check the cabling and try again.

Once you have a valid IP address listed, you can continue to the next step.

Step 2: Select your printer in Heartland Retail

Once you have successfully obtained an IP address from your printer, you are nearly ready to use it in Heartland Retail.

First, start Heartland Retail Connect if it is not already running. If it is running, quit and restart the app.

Next, from within Heartland Retail, navigate to the Point of Sale and refresh your web browser. Then click the menu button in the top left corner, then click Settings.

This will load a window that allows you to select your receipt printer. If you have successfully followed the steps up to this point, your printer will be displayed with an IP Address such as Star TCP (192.168.13.123). The IP Address listed should be the same as the address you obtained during step 3.

Once you have selected the correct receipt printer, click the Print Test Receipt button. If the test receipt prints out properly, you are ready go! If the receipt fails to print, please follow this guide: Receipt Printer Troubleshooting
